Khutba Topic 5: History of Islam

Points khatib (the one who delivers the Friday sermon) should make:

1. Understanding history will help us understand our present reality.

2. The Hijri calendar began when the prophet (pbuh) entered Madina and established an Islamic State by uniting the people of Yathrib (later re-named Al-Madina).

3. Muslims were once united under one mega state ruled by Caliphs, such as the Ummayads, Abbasids and the Uthmani’s.

4. The military superirority, technological advancement and economic harmony between people of all races and colours were never surpassed, even now.

5. This was because Islamic laws were applied all across the State over Muslims and non-Muslims, who lived peacefully side by side, until Russia/France/ Britain instigated rebellion and division.

6. Correct understanding of Islam was lost, and later replaced by nationalism and secularism, which lead to the establishment of 55 weak Muslim statelets.

7. Currently, some Muslims countries are under occupation (e.g. Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan), and the rest are largely impotent.

8. Muslims should learn the real history of Islam with the view of finding solution to the problems of the Muslim world.
